“Ah, don’t let that mutt in here,” whined Walter.

Tyrone let out a sigh of relief.

Carlos slapped Tyrone’s back. “You were scared.”

“So were you,” said Tyrone as he climbed back into bed.

“I was,” admitted Carlos.

Parker shut the door and smirked at the smiling dog.

Walter groaned. “I’m serious, Big City. Put him outside.”

The dog looked questioningly at Parker. “But it’s so cold out there,” said Parker.

“He smells awful,” said Walter.

“He’s just wet,” said Parker. “This is what wet dogs smell like.”

“That dog has never had a bath in his life. Look at him. He’s dripping mud.”

“Let him stay, man,” said Chet. “He’s not gonna hurt anyone and he’ll freeze in the wind.”

Walter’s upper lip curled. “You guys are nuts.” He climbed under his pillows and blankets. “If he chews any of my stuff you’re paying for it.”

Parker gave an appreciative nod to Chet, who shrugged and got into bed.

Parker bent down and gave the muddy dog a rub on the head. Then got back on his cot and curled into a ball. It was still freezing even with his elevated blood pressure.

Then Outcast sprang onto the bed and cuddled up next to him. Dirt and all.
